AMKENI is a Community-based Organisation, implementing Key Population interventions in Kilifi County with the generous support of Kenya Red Cross society under the Global Fund grant. AMKENI is looking for qualified persons to fill the following positions:

Clinical Officer: Job Summary

To provide comprehensive Biomedical, behavioral and structural interventions to Key Populations to include risk reduction counseling and appropriate referral system in a confidential manner and in accordance to the service delivery SOPs on a daily basis.

Main duties and responsibilities

The clinical officer will work with key population in project catchment areas with the following key responsibilities:

  • Manage the day – to – day running of the Key Population (MSM) Clinic as per the standards provided by the Ministry of Health
  • Advice and provide a wide range of Reproductive Health and HIV related services to MSM community both at the static and outreach service delivery points.
  • Conduct regular physical examination to the MSMs and provide treatment as required.
  • Oversee appropriate referrals of MSMs to other referral sites and services including making appointments and ensuring follow up of the clients.
  • Ensure that cost efficiency and quality of care standards are met.
  • Work with Nurse, HTS officer, Field Officer, Peer Educators, outreach workers and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive care package to the he MSM community.

Manage drug and supply stocks and report to the different stakeholders.

  • Ensure availability and adherence to the National Key Population NASCOP guidelines, tools, and the Quality Management Framework and any other necessary service delivery guidelines/tools.
  • Prepare regular clinical, clients and stock reports and submit to the relevant authorities as required.
  • In liaison with the M&E team, ensure monthly key populations data is captured, collected, verified, collated, analysed and interpreted, and analytical quantitative and qualitative program performance reports generated including Lessons learnt, Challenges, success stories and Best Practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution
  • Registered with Clinical Officers’ Council of Kenya and possess a valid practicing license
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience with Key population programming.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with proven team player attributes
  • Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver the Society’s strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, email and utilization of the internet.
  • Flexibility and ability to deliver non-judgmental services to MSMs.
  • Previous working experience with Key Population ( MSM, FSW and PWID) is an added advantage

HTS Counsellor: Job Summary

To provide risk reduction counseling services to Key Populations (MSMs) in a confidential manner and within the laid down SOPs on a daily basis and refer clients appropriately.

Main duties and responsibilities

The HTC counsellor will work with key population in the project catchment areas with the following key responsibilities:

  • Planning risk reduction session
  • Obtain informed consent from the clients
  • Explain the testing process (conventional or rapid testing) and possible results
  • Provide low-level intervention and respond to client questions and concerns, if necessary
  • Correctly document intervention/services using appropriate data collection form(s) – consent form, lab slip, etc
  • Conducting clients risk assessment
  • Conducting client-centred counselling per ethical protocols and training to assist client in behaviour change and risk reduction,
  • Make appropriate referrals for both high-risk negative clients and HIV-positive clients,
  • Disclose HIV results (both negative and positive) and conduct disclosure counselling,
  • If client tests HIV-positive, provide referral to medical care (for clients who do not have private medical insurance) and other referrals as appropriate (i.e., psycho-social, etc.)
  • Submit monthly report by 2nd of every month and quarterly reports
  • Follow site protocol to verify medical care visits or linkage to care for clients who test positive
  • Correctly document intervention/services using appropriate data collection form(s) – CIF, consent form, lab slip, etc. Conduct weekly mobile HTC and outreaches.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma in Counselling from a recognized institution.
  • At least a minimum of 2 years working with Key Population Program

Nursing Officer: Job Summary

To provide comprehensive bio-medical and structural interventions to Key Populations to in a confidential manner and within the laid down SOPs on a daily basis to include advice and appropriate referrals

Main duties and responsibilities

The nurse will work with key population in the project catchment areas with the following key responsibilities:

  • Monitor the daily health and well-being of the Key Population (MSMs)
  • Conduct regular physical checks of the MSMs and provide treatment as required.
  • Oversee appropriate referrals of MSMs to other referral sites and services including making appointments and ensuring follow up of the clients.
  • Ensure that cost efficiency and quality of care standards are met.
  • Work with the Clinical Officer, HTS officer, Field Officer, Peer Educators Outreach workers and other support staff to realize a comprehensive care package for the MSMs is achieved.
  • Manage drug and supply stocks and report to the different stakeholders
  • Prepare regular clients and stock reports and submit to the relevant authorities as required.

  • Diploma/Degree in community health nursing from a recognized institution
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and possess a valid practicing license
  • Minimum of 2 years working with Key Population Program
