Job title: Project Officer TOUCH PLUS

Reports To: Program Officer HEALTH

Location: Vihiga, Kakamega and Bungoma

Duration: 1 year

NYARWEK was founded in the year 2009 to advocate for the rights of the sexual and gender minorities in western Kenya. The organization works with 19 member organizations on four result areas namely; Advocacy, Health, Livelihoods and IS/OD.

Under Health, the organization is partnering with LVCT health in the project Towards Universal Comprehensive Health care for LGBT persons in Vihiga, Kakamega and Bungoma. Hence the organization is looking for a project officer based in Kakamega and 3 outreach workers to be based in Vihiga, Kakamega and Bungoma to coordinate implementation of the project.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate the implementation of the whole project within the three counties in liaison with the Program Officer Health
  2. Coordinate outreach and in reach activities in the facilities and the safe space
  3. Supervise outreach workers and peer educators
  4. Represent NYARWEK in all county, national and international events in the 3 counties.
  5. Collect and disseminate data in relation to M & E tools of the organization
  6. Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual work plans and reports.
  7. Linking NYARWEK with other stakeholders and partners in the counties
  8. Coordinate activities within the safe space
  9. Lead CME within the facilities
  10. Liars with police on following up and documentation of violation of the LGBTI individual within the counties
  11. Conducting training related to SRHR and Human rights to the member groups within the respective counties
  12. Administrative logistical support to the program staff within the facilities and safe space
  13. Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Degree/Diploma in Project Management, Community Development, Human Right, Health related studies, Finance And Communication
  2. At least 2 years’ Experience in community liaison and peer education programming
  3. Good team work, communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Has experience in working in the field of health especially working with public health facilities and LGBTI organization
  5. Fluent in spoken and written English and Kiswahili. (Luhya will be an added advantage)
  6. Ability to work independently as well as in teams and meets deadline
  7. Sound knowledge on legal and health Human right issues facing LGBTI community in Kenya
  8. Ready to stay in one of the project areas.

Job title: Outreach Workers (3 Positions)

Reports To: Project Officer TOUCH PLUS

Location: Vihiga, Kakamega and Bungoma

Duration: 1 year

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate outreach and in reach activities within the county
  2. Supervise peer educators
  3. Represent NYARWEK in all county, national and international events in the county.
  4. Collect and compile outreach and referral data
  5. Follow up on referrals.
  6. Work closely with the project officer on maintaining of the safe space
  7. Coordinate activities at the safe space
  8. Facilitate health talks and CME at the facilities and safe space
  9. Liaison between the organization and the community
  10. Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Diploma / Certificate in Community Health And Development, HTS Certificate Certified by NASCOP or any other related field
  2. Experience in working with LGBT individuals or organizations.
  3. Good team work, communication and inter personal skills.
  4. Fluent in spoken and written English and Kiswahili. (Luhya will be an added advantage)
  5. Computer literate and more so with Windows Operating System , Microsoft Office Suite, e.t.c
  6. Members who have subscribed to be one of NYARWEK member organization will be given added advantage.
  7. Ready to reside at the project areas.
