PEMA Kenya Vacancies

Persons Marginalized and Aggrieved- Kenya(PEMA Kenya) is a registered Community Based Organization (CBO) registered with the Ministry of Gender and Social Services that champions for inclusion of the sexual and gender minorities in the Coastal region of Kenya. PEMA Kenya also works closely with other organizations that share the same vision countrywide. PEMA Kenya wishes to recruit a suitable candidates, on a 12 month contract for the following positions.

ASSISTANT PROGRAMS OFFICER

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will:

  • Be in charge of assisting the programs officers under PEMA Kenya
  • Any other duties as advised by the Executive Director in reference with the Board.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A diploma project management, human rights, community development, Health related studies, finance and communication
  • Experience working with LGBTI organizations and individuals.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili.
  • Computer literate and more so with MS Office, Suite, e.t.c.
  • Flexibility and accessibility outside of work hours to address questions or concerns.

Sound knowledge on legal and health Human Rights issues facing the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community in Kenya.

OUTREACH WORKER

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will:

  • Be in charge of outreaches and in-reaches under PEMA Kenya
  • In charge of collecting and keeping data collected during outreaches and referrals
  • Ensure timely reporting by the peer educators
  • Follow up referrals
  • Any other duties as advised by the Executive Director in reference with the Board.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A diploma Community development, HTS certificate certified by NASCOP and other Health related studies
  • Experience working with LGBTI organizations and individuals.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili.
  • Computer literate and more so with MS Office, Suite, e.t.c.
  • Flexibility and accessibility outside of work hours to address questions or concerns.
  • Sound knowledge on health issues facing the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community in Kenya.

LEGAL AND ADVOCACY OFFICER

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will:

  • Be in charge of the legal programme at PEMA Kenya and provide legal aid to cases undertaken by PEMA Kenya and will provide assistance thereof in processing of said cases;
  • Will be in charge of the legal desk and monitor, document, follow up and record cases of human rights abuses against LGBT persons; this includes visits, complaints and follow ups;
  • Assist in preparation of contracts, Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) ,Terms of Reference

(ToRs)and other similar legal documents with due reference to the Programs Coordinator;

  • Organize legal clinics, workshops and seminars for LGBT persons and other stakeholders;
  • Maintain a 24hr legal hotline and emergency number for cases;
  • Collaborate with mainstream Human Rights organizations and partners to coordinate responses to LGBTI human rights violations.
  • Update and traffic PEMA Kenya’s social media links and profiles on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, e.t.c.
  • Review articles, news stories or publications of interest to the Organization/Gender and sexual minorities and respond appropriately;
  • Visit police stations, courts, and other venue and intervene appropriately
  • Advise PEMA Kenya’s Board and management on its obligations, negotiations and implementation in contracts with partners, donors and staff.
  • Any other duties as advised by the Executive Director in reference with the Board.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from a recognized university, or at least a post graduate diploma in law.
  • A diploma management, human rights, finance, communication will be an added advantage
  • Experience working with LGBTI organizations and individuals.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili.
  • Computer literate and more so with MS Office, Suite, e.t.c.
  • Flexibility and accessibility outside of work hours to address questions or concerns.
  • Sound knowledge on legal and Human Rights issues facing the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Community in Kenya.
